As one of our last assignments we were asked to make paper dolls that would have elements that could be added or taken away from the figure. These dolls could be created in a number of ways- either designed to fold together or more of the traditional style that lays flat and elements can be folded around the doll; such as clothing, accessories, and tools.
For my doll, I again followed the same line of thought that I had had when creating the designs for my deck of cards. I’ve been wanting to depict the world of my stories and develop them into something that I could explain to someone else. But for a while I have held myself back from creating this sort of art for a number of different reasons, mainly due to the fact I felt I lacked the skill to depict humans at the level I wished to be able to create those illustration at.
I settled upon one of the main characters in my stories- Ember Asmond, a musician and warrior- a chaotic bard determined to protect everyone and everything she loves. Creating the character herself wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be as I found myself creating a very symmetrical design in order to keep my proportions balanced between the left and right sides.  This may have ended up creating a rather awkward and stiff pose for the doll, but I attempted to offset this pose just a bit with the uneven flow of her hair. Originally I had planned for the viewer of the doll to be able to remove the overcoat, but I quickly realized I did not quite have the time to finish multiple layers of clothing to the same level of detail and style so I instead continued as planned originally and created Ember’s wings, violin, sword belt, and an energy drink for good measure.
There are a few things that I would change about the design if I were to go back and do it again, namely I would make each side a little different than the other, I would also focus on getting the facial features correct as I believe I have created the eyes and eyebrows a bit too large in comparison with the rest of her face. I also would want to use multiple layers of armor and clothing so those who print off the design could change the appearance even more than with the props I have provided the viewer/creator with.
